I’m a born & raised New Yorker and I love my city more than should be allowed. I will have to be dragged out of here kicking and screaming.
Because of that, I have always loved RHONY the most because I love seeing my city as the back drop of a funny, interesting television show.
Because of that, I also want my city to be represented in a positive light yet I also want to be entertained. It’s a fine line.
I didn’t watch the last season of RHONY; I watched three episodes and called it a day. I couldn’t handle the bare streets of Manhattan amidst Covid, Ramona was particularly hard to watch and I honestly didn’t like Eboni. It just felt like a flat season of RHONY.
Unlike other fans, I don’t think Eboni killed the show. I think the show was on it’s way out; Dorinda’s last season was a flop and the way she treated Tinsley was gross. In my opinion, RHONY doesn’t work without Bethenny to keep the ladies in line. When you don’t have Bethenny, you just have a bunch of older, drunk has beens crying about their old lives or shitting their pants.
RHONY as we knew it needed to die.
I was so excited when Bravo announced the reboot. This is what we needed; we needed new blood. We needed glitz, glamour, a diverse cast of fun, interesting, and new women who ran in similar circles.
I wanted some new ladies who had names I recognized, who were actually housewives in their own right and had something to offer. New York is the best city in the world… LuAnn, Ramona and Sonja no longer represent that New York. They did at one time but we’ve changed a lot and our reality shows need to change with us.
I could not sit through another season of Sonja crying about not being a Morgan or Ramona leaving dinners to go out on a date. These women were not New York Housewives anymore; they didn’t have the status or money or personality. They weren’t friends - they were showing up to the Hamptons on Labor Day Weekend to clock in and collect a paycheck.
It was tired and overdone. It was time to let it go.
Today, we got our trailer for the reboot and oh my goodness does it look fun! It’s glamorous, it’s fun, it’s interesting and there’s going to be drama. I know two women on the cast: Jenna Lyons who I worshipped post-college life in 2014 and Sai, of Scout in the City, one of the ORIGINAL bloggers.
Those names were enough to draw me in and hook me but then I saw the trailer and I was sold even more. It’s real life Sex and the City on steroids; it’s everything you would expect from NEW YORK CITY.
The women look like so much fun, they have so much personality! They’re stunning, they seem to get along and they’re putting their best foot forward. They deserve a chance.
Everyone on the internet however, is really mad. They’re saying that Season 14 doesn’t look like a Housewives show.
And to that I say… what is housewives, exactly? Housewives is a group of women (who should be married since they are houseWIVES) in a fabulous city who get into trouble, have big personalities, have fun together and get into the occasional scuffle.
Housewives is NOT women who hate each other and only show up for the show, who shit their pants, throw tantrums when they don’t get the best room on a cast trip, who drink until they can’t speak and smack their heads on a table or throw vibrators into chickens.
RHONY was trashy and not in a fun way at the end. Everyone seems to forget the way they acted in Season 12 and 13. It was not pleasant.
Quite frankly I’m tired of everyone going so hard on housewives. These shows are supposed to be fun! They’re entertainment! It’s not that serious! Stop acting like this is the end of the world! Stop acting like you’re being personally attacked because Ramona Singer isn’t on RHONY Season 14.
Stop trashing everything before you even watch it because you’re going to watch it and you’re probably going to like it.
In the words of Kyle Cooke…Housewives should be fun.
RHONY Season 14 looks really good and I for one, cannot wait for July 16th.
What do you think of the RHONY Season 14 trailer?
