I don’t necessarily care about what happened on Potomac for the majority of the season but I do care about the fact that once again, Candiace is being made to be the villain.
Candiace Dillard Basset is the Potomac Housewives scapegoat, the sacrificial lamb of the cast, and it’s tiring. If it’s exhausting to watch and defend, it has to be exhausting for Candiace.
I started watching Potomac during Covid aka Season 5 and just jumped in blindly instead of binging from the beginning. Because of that, I had a pretty clean slate impression of Candiace, though I know that she has done things that are pretty horrific. However, what I’ve seen in the past three seasons is growth…Candiace is trying to be a better person and while her words cut deep, I feel like she’s soften a bit.
She doesn’t seem to be nearly as intense as she has been in the past and I think that deserves to be recognized. Yet, Candiace is still being attacked from every which way.
Last year, her husband was purposely and preemptively attacked for something he didn’t do. Gizelle and Ashley have gotten sloppy with their work because it was so obvious that they spoke about setting up Chris before the season started.
Then, Robyn has the nerve to turn around and deflect her husband cheating…again. Of course Candiace was going to be mad. Everyone was pissed at Robyn for putting that reveal behind a paywall. Mostly everyone was calling for her to be fired, including myself. That is a step too far… so I can’t imagine how Candiace felt.
Candiace was made to be the villain all season because she was hurt by people she considered friends, and that narrative continued tonight in the season finale.
Once again, Candiace is being made as the bad guy when she was the one who was assaulted, again. For Ashley to sit there and say that Candiace deserves to be assaulted because she hits below the belt is insane.
Ashley Darby is a problem, and she has been for a while. She enabled her disgusting husband in his antics against production and the other woman, and has continually defended physical violence against Candiace because of her hateful heart.
Ashley Darby brought Sesame Street to the party knowing how Candiace and Wendy felt about her. Deborah made insinuations about Eddie and Chris, which were obviously proven false with by the reality TV cameras they were surrounded by at the time, but Ashley didn’t care. How did she expect everyone to react when she brought this woman around?
Deborah is desperate to be on the show, and it’s so obvious by her past actions, including baiting Candiace by coming up to her at the party.
Candiace didn’t start the fight; she didn’t deserve to be physically assaulted because she was fighting with words. Deborah decided to make it physical, just like Monique decided to make it physical. I was taught to never put your hands on someone else, no matter what they do…unless they put their hands on you first.
I am so tired of these woman blaming Candiace for the things that happen to her; the woman uses her words, and doesn’t put hands on anyone…it’s not her fault that the people who she argues with can’t use their words.
Ashley is just as guilty for what happened at that party as Deborah is, because she knew that Deborah was a liability.. and in turn, Ashley is a liability.
It’s time for Ashley to pack her bags and say goodbye to Potomac.
*I’ll write another post about everything else going on in Potomac because I have a lot of thoughts after finishing the finale and seeing what went down between Mia and Gordon so stay tuned!
What are your thoughts on tonight’s finale? Is it time for Ashely to go?
