Weekly REPORT #15
this week has been 15 years
Boy…what a week. We’re not done with January yet but it feels like we’ve lived a 100 lives since the clock struck midnight on 2025. This week was very difficult — for a variety of reasons; personally, professionally and worldly. I’m sick to my stomach over the state of the world and as we prepare for a TikTok ban (it’s 7 PM EST as I write this, so it should be happening at any given moment), we have been flooded with warnings of 1930s Germany, oligarchy and the crumbling of America as we know it.
It’s really hard for me to not subscribe to those feelings, to not let them get inside my head. I spent the better part of the week and weekend popping Xanax, laying under my weighted blanket and desperately trying to find someone to tell me it’s going to be ok.
If anyone has recommendations of a good news source — whether that’s a person or organization or substack — that can provide me with cold, hard facts that the conspiracy theories and doomsday warnings are fake news, that would be wonderful.
I’m going to try to stay off of social media as much as possible, and only consume news when it suits me and when I could handle it. I need to take care of myself, and I recommend the same for all of you.*
*I wrote this Saturday night before the ban and then, Sunday around 1 PM it miraculously came back. What a shit show.
READING
I finally started The Really Dead Wives of New Jersey of which I’ve had an ARC of for while and I’m loving it! As a Bravo lover, clearly, this book is everything you could want — an outsider, with secrets, joining an Italian family who are the stars of The New Jersey Goddesses. I’m about 30% through and I can’t wait to read more.
EATING
I’ve had zero appetite this week and have been surviving off of chicken quesadillas, baked oatmeal and pasta. Not the healthiest, not the tastiest, but it is what it is.
PLAYING
I bought a Tamagotchi this weekend and I' feel good about it. After multiple panic attacks because of the government and the TikTok ban, I knew I needed to do something. I broke my lowbuy (or realistically enacted the ‘1 treat a month rule’ and bought a Tamagotchi at Target. It is adorable and brings me straight back to my childhood which I think we could all use right about now.
OBSESSING
I've had a Hatch Restore alarm clock for almost two years and I love it so much. I don’t always use the wind down feature because I usually meditate with Headspace, but the past week or so I’ve used it every night and it feels so nice. I would really like the Hatch Restore 3 because of the ‘no phone’ feature, but once again, please see my no buy rules.
RECOMMENDING
If you are not watching Southern Hospitality, I need you to do so right now. We’re only a few episodes into season 3 and it’s giving us so much — people crashing out, relationship drama, friend drama, work drama… it’s the best part of the week!
TREATING
I have been dying to go to the Rockaway Hotel Winter Pool House for the better part of three months, and today, my sister & I finally went. We got massages, scalp treatments, went in the outdoor pool (yes in January - it was super heated & steam was rising off of the water) and went in the sauna. We had lunch, relaxed in our robes and it was honestly the perfect Sunday.
